Exciting News to Share!

Hi all,

Sorry for posting this reminder so late. It's been quite crazy with the storm, Halloween and all. We just wanted to let you know that the the next FAF meeting is Wednesday Nov. 16th at 7 pm at the Pearl River Library. Jonathan Elias will be back to talk about a new peanut test his company has.

We have some exciting news to share. Helen is working with the Rockland Boulders to get a peanut free section at one of their games next season! We would love everyone's input on this.

Also, Food Allergy Families of Rockland  is now listed on on the FAAN website as an official support group! http://www.foodallergy.org/section/support-groups We are so excited about that as well.

The FANN Walk was a success as well. We raised about $1300.00 this year as a team. Thanks everyone! I did have photos but my computer ate them and are gone forever. We did look great in our red FAF shirts! Thanks Helen for getting them together.

One last thing! If anyone is interested in helping with marketing and promotion to help spread the word about us let me know. We could use the help.

Ok we hope to see you next week!

Best,
Diane and Helen.

The FAAN Walk Was Tons of Fun!

We had a great time at the FAAN Walk for Food Allergy in Ridgewood, NJ this year. Unfortunately my computer deleted all our fun photos that we wanted to share. We raised about $1,300.00, just $200 short of our goal, but still a great result. Thanks to all who donated and walked with us.

We also got to sample some goodies and met some interesting people. He are some of them:

Our local favorite baker Antoinette from Grandma's Kitchenhttp://www.grandmaskitchennj.com/default.asp
Divvies: http://www.divvies.com
Sunbutter:  http://www.sunbutter.com/
Home Free:  http://www.homefreetreats.com/
Enjoy Life: http://www.enjoylifefoods.com/
No Nut Nation had some really yummy brownies! http://nonutnation.com
Galaxy Products (a cheese alternative): http://www.galaxyfoods.com/galaxy-products/

There was someone there with lollie pops but I can't remember who they are. Sorry.

Besides food there were also some other support groups there, as well as some great products. One that was a favorite of mine was from The Allergic Traveler. It's a card with your allergies on it in English and in the language of the country you are traveling to.  This way you can clearly communicate what food allergies you or you child has. I love this idea!

AllerMates: www.Allermates.com
My Favorite magazine Allergic Living was there too.
AllerMates: www.Allermates.com

Support Groups in attendance:
Food Allergy & Asthma Support Group of North Jersey
Supportive Parents of Allergic Kids (SPOAK)

I'm sure I'm forgetting some other great people and products. I'll have to get Helen to add the ones I forgot.

Oh and the Next FAF meeting is on Nov. 16th at 7pm at the Pearl River Library. Our Guest is Jonathan Elias from ImmunoDiagnostics will be there to talk about his companies new peanut test.

Hope to see you all at the next meeting.

Best,
Diane

October Meeting!

The October Meeting for FAF Rockland will be Wednesday the 19th at the Pearl River Library at 7pm in the Pearl River Room.

Bring your favorite sweet treat ideas and recipes for Halloween!

Halloween Parade and Playdate

One of the Weschester FA Groups is hosting a FA safe Halloween event! Thanks Suzie for letting us know!

Sunday, October 23—Halloween Parade and Playdate
Atria Senior Living, Briarcliff Manor
1025 Pleasantville Road
Briarcliff Manor, NY
(914) 923-4400
Join us for a food-free costume parade at Atria Senior Living in Briarcliff Manor; they were delighted to work with us to coordinate a safe Halloween event that would be both fun for the kids and the seniors.  There will be a space to change out of costumes afterwards (and use the bathroom), and then, weather permitting, we will go to the neighboring Briarcliff Park for the kids to play on the swings/in the sandbox/etc.  If the weather doesn’t hold out, feel free to reconvene at the very nearby Mrs. Greens at 9A and State Road, a place where even all of us can buy a safe snack for our kids!  I will provide goodie bags with some toys and individually wrapped top-8 free candies (They will make sure the labels are available to read) which they will hand over to the parents for double-checking.

Please RVSP. They need to give the facility a rough headcount of how many children will be participating.

NY Mets stepping up to the plate!

Tuesday May 3rd. @7:10 pm
vs. San Francisco Giants

The NY Mets are going to have a peanut control night! It's not a peanut free game, but there will be a peanut free suite, with a peanut free menu, offered to the fans in the suite. The ticket price includes the food, beverages (non alcoholic), and the safety of the suite. It's pricey ($90.90 per person), and not the best time for kids to go to a game, but it's a start. The suit will also be power washed prior to the game to add to the safety!

During my original conversation with their rep, I was told that only 45 General Admission tickets (no assigned seats), will be available online only. I was also told if this is successful (meaning sold out or close to it), they will look into adding more peanut control games to the schedule.

I did mention that people with peanut allergies generally are allergic to other foods and hope that they will allow those individuals to bring their own with them. I do not know if that is something they will allow, so I suggest you call or e-mail. The direct contact info. is on the link.

As I am a Met fan and the hubby is a Yankee fan, this has to be a success in order to sway the little man into the Mets camp. Here is the link again to the info.

Getting Organized!

It's time for Food Allergy Families of Rockland to get organized and get the fist meeting set up. Before we do that we would like to get a feel for what times and days work for everyone. Right now we are looking at an evening meeting once a moth on a week night. As of now it looks like the 1st meeting will be held in Nyack, but the date and time is still to be determined.

We hope this will be a place where the families with children who have food allergies can get together to talk,  share their tips and tricks for keeping our children safe, support each other, learn,  and even share recipes and make some friends.

If you are interested in joining us let us know. Also tell us what you would like FAF Rockland to include. You can leave a message on this blog, or e-mail fafrockland@gmail.com, or nonutsformypeanut@gmail.com

We look forward to meeting you!
